Family Tree Project

Looking for a unique way to display your family tree? Try this project, featuring "Lush" products from My Mind's Eye.

Cut your background paper, distress the edges, and adorn with ribbon. Attach to another 12x12 sheet of coordinating patterned paper. Cut a tree from flocked brown paper (template available in the scrapbooking department). Punch photos using various sizes of circle punches. Give a few of them dimension by attaching them with pop dots. Cut various sizes of leaves from green patterned paper and attach randomly. Finish with a title made from flocked alphabet stickers. Place inside a 12x12 shadow box.

The 2x2 blocks could be fun standing alone or displayed with the shadow box.

To make your own set, cover all 6 sides of each block with paper or photos. (You can pre-print a favorite saying onto some of the papers first). Ink around the edges of the blocks to distress. Attach chipboard letters to spell out your family name. Create the "knob" by threading beads onto a corsage pin. Drill a hole in the top of the block by pounding a nail half way, then remove it. Glue the pin with the beads into the hole with Diamond Glaze and finish it off with a little ribbon.

The possibilities are endless with this project! Yours is sure to be a treasure for years to come.

Floating Frame Project

This beautiful project, designed by Maureen Wilson, features photos, patterned papers, metal embellishments, and fabric.

This frame has four layers of glass. The first is a protective layer, the second has photos, the third has embellishments, and the fourth has fabric squares. This close up shot might give you a better idea:

To make one of your own, follow these simple steps:

  1. If you want to make a grid like the one shown, cut all your photos, papers, and fabrics to 2 inch squares (or use a 2 inch punch).
  2. Next remove the layers of glass from the frame.
  3. Use a dry erase marker to draw a grid on one sheet of glass. Then layer a sheet of glass on top of it so it’s easy to get perfect placement for all your squares. Attach your photos with glue dots.
  4. Repeat for each layer.
  5. When you’re finished, wash the marker off and use that sheet for the top protective layer.
This floating frame makes an eye catching display and is a beautiful way to showcase your favorite photos.

Christmas Decor with some Bo Bunny

St. Nick is here...from Bo Bunny, that is! This beautiful and traditional collection features holly leaves, mistletoe, stockings, and vintage Santas. It's perfect for creating home decor items as well as documenting your holiday memories.

Here's a look at some holiday decor created with St. Nick:

You can easily create this framed art by choosing a mat, frame (remove the glass), and a few sheets of patterned paper. Paint the sides of the wooden "Joy", then cover each letter with paper using Mod Podge. Decorate the letters with matching stickers and ribbon. Then attach "Joy" to the mat with strong glue. It a short time, you will have a beautiful decoration!

This "Believe" banner is fun to make and very versatile. Start with a chipboard base and cut into as many triangles as you would like. Decorate with bits of patterned paper and ribbon. Die cut stars and letters to spell anything you would like.

I discovered a super easy way to attach glitter to the die cut letters without making a big mess. First, die cut your letters from cardstock. Then, run them upside down through a Xyron sticker maker. This will attach adhesive to the front of the letter. Then sprinkle them with glitter and shake off the excess. It's as easy as can be and virtually mess free! (I loved the Martha Stewart glitter for this project).

Attach the banner together with wire or ribbon. You can leave a little space in between each pennant for tying bits of lace and ribbon if desired. Attach part of a Christmas pick to each end and finish off with some more pretty ribbons.

I even had enough patterned paper left over to create a simple Christmas layout. Bo Bunny's package of buttons and bling were perfect for creating this tree embellishment.

If you would like help making any of these projects, visit our scrapbooking department and our associates would be glad to assist you.

Graphic 45 & Tim Holtz

Have you seen all the great vintage-looking paper collections from Graphic 45? There are so many fun projects you can create with them from layouts and mini albums to altered items and home decor.

To cover a wooden 12x12 frame, brush Mod Podge onto the surface and carefully lay a sheet of patterned paper over the top. (You will have to work quickly...Mod Podge dries fast)! Smooth out any bubbles. Flip the frame over so you are looking at the back and use a craft knife to cut the paper away from the photo opening. Embellish with stickers, flowers, ribbons, or anything else you would like.

To create the paper flowers, cut various sizes of circles using a die cut machine or paper punches. Cut around each circle with decorative scissors. (We also have circle punches with scalloped edges). Ink the edges with a warm brown color (we like using "Vintage Photo Distress Ink by Tim Holtz). Lightly spritz each circle with water. Crinkle them up and shape them to form a 3-dimensional layer. Once dry, layer two or three circles and attach them together with glue dots or a decorative brad to create a lovely, one-of-a-kind flower.

This layout was created using the "Baby 2 Bride" collection. Since the white velvet stickers didn't show up on the page, I altered the color of them with some chalks to better match the layout.

Incorporate hidden journaling into a cluster of elements to create a unique photo corner. The metal key by Tim Holtz really adds to the vintage feel of the layout as well as the crackle paint used to alter the chipboard flourish.

Create a simple flower by gathering a bit of sheer ribbon and topping it with a punched circle and a pretty pearl brad.

We have a variety of finished and unfinished trunks which you can alter for a unique look. Just use patterned papers and cut-outs, chipboard letters, and bits of ribbon to re-create this darling child's trunk.

Here's a view of the lid...

You can attach a small chalkboard to the inside of the lid. Tie a small piece of chalk to a ribbon that hangs next to the chalkboard. You could also choose to line the bottom with some felt.

Have fun and get creative! Check out the gallery at Graphic 45 for more inspiring ideas!
