2nd Saturday Recap
This month during 2nd Saturday, we focused on using fabric as a scrapbooking element on our layouts. If we were to browse through memories, many of us could remember a special quilt, dress, curtains, or tablecloths that invoke warm, tender memories of loved ones or favorite events. Why not help recall those warm fuzzy moments by using fabric to adorn our pages.
Along with this, we introduced the "Clover Quick Yo-Yo Makers." This product was used in the following layout to make the butterfly and the flowers. The use of the Yo-Yo Maker made an adorable three-dimensional element that is perfect for displaying in your monthly calendar shadow box. The elements were adhered to the page first with a glue dot and then with a small stitch through the back to insure placement.
There are many different shaped makers that come in a variety of sizes. The Yo-Yo Makers can be used to make hair accessories, embellishments for clothing and purses, and even quilts. This product can be found in the fabric department of the store.
Don't forget that felt is considered a fabric when scrapbooking. In the above layout felt was die cut to add texture and warmth to the page.
In this layout, fabric was used in place of ribbon and paper piecing. It was also stamped with paint to add another element of design.
On this layout, a piece of fabric was used to create a border on the page. This fabric was ironed on to "Heat-N-Bond" and then ironed directly to the background paper of the layout.
The flowers in this layout were created by punching a circle from card stock and cutting 1/2 inch strips of fabric that were then hot glued to the center of the circle. The fabric was twisted and glued every so often in a circular motion to form the flower. These flowers can also be used in different crafting projects just as the flowers made from the "Yo-Yo Makers".
In this layout, flannel was used by fraying the edges and using large basting stitches to adhere it to the page.
You can use fabric to die cut a variety of shapes. Here's a helpful hint I would like to share with you. Fabric tends to move when going through a die cut machine. If you use "Heat-N-Bond" to adhere it to a piece of cardstock, you will get a nice clean cut every time.
Happy scrapping and good luck with your challenge this month. We look forward to seeing what your creative juices bring!
