A Final Look at our New Year's Celebration!

2010 is only two days away and we are ready to celebrate with a big crafting event at Porter's!

What: New Year's Day Celebration
When: January 1st from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Where: Rexburg and Idaho Falls stores
Bring: Basic tools, snacks, a friend, and a smile. :)

In scrapbooking, you can make three 1-page layouts and an 8x8 calendar for only $15!

In our beading department, you can make a one-of-a-kind convertible necklace. Choose your own beads and we will help you put it together.

We will be kicking off our Block-of-the-Month programs in our fabric department. Choose one of the quilts shown above or both!

Beading Project for New Year's Day

We hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas break! Now it's time to think about crafting. Why not join us on New Year's Day for a girl's day out? Here is an example of a great beading project you can make that day.
You will choose all your own beads and we will help you put it together into this great convertible necklace. The bottom half clips on and off so you can change it to match your watch band or the outfit you are wearing. We have many beads and pendants to choose from to make your one-of-a-kind necklace!

Part of the scrapbooking packet you will get at our New Year's Day crop consists of an 8x8 calendar. You will use papers provided that day in your kit and add your own 4x4 photos and whatever titles you choose to die cut. Here is a peek at the first 4 months:

A Closer Look at our New Year's Day Event!

As promised, here's a closer look at the three 1-page layouts that are part of the paper crafting kit for our New Year's Crop. All of these are created with papers found in an exclusive My Mind's Eye 12x12 paper pad that you will receive that day.

This shaped layout by Stephanie celebrates the love of two brothers through all kinds of weather. Die cuts and felt accents adorn this page. It's perfect for photos from any season.

Candi's layout showcases photos from an outdoor adventure her family enjoyed together. Die cut your own title for a very versatile page!

Kathy's sweet layout uses simple paper embellishments to accent the adorable photo of her children. The punched edges create a cute lacy border!

2nd Saturday Recap

Embossing is a way to add a shiny finish to your stamped image and helps to add that little bit of Zing.

In the above layout, a pre-glittered snowflake meant for Christmas decorating was added as the bling. Bling seems to make things magical for children.

The bling on this page is the foil paper.

The center of the flowers are tiny mirrors on this page and add a special touch to a picture perfect child.

On this page, shiny organza ribbon and rhinestones in the center of the flowers add the perfect amount of zing for a great page design.

Sometimes all that is needed are the rhinestones on their own for a great design element.

This fun page was created by applying glue to the letters, flower, and purse with a glue pad and then sprinkling glitter on them. Some grade school techniques always work well.

On this page, glitter glue was added to the brad to add bling, and the title and flourish border are made from pearly Bazzill cardstock.

There are several scrapbook papers that come with their own bling added. They also may have matching embellishments. Be sure to look for those when picking out your paper.

Here we have used pre-shaped rhinestones as an elegant frame around the subject of the page.

2nd Saturday Assignment

December's assignment is to make a January page with "Bling" as the accents on the page.
Remember, the page doesn't have to be a winter page, but it does have to have "bling" incorporated in the design somewhere.

Some of you were uncertain on what the rules are for the 2nd Saturday Class, so I have listed them here:

• In January, classes will have new start time of 8:30 a.m.
• Each time you come to class you will need to bring your assigned page from the month before, complete with pictures attached. :)
  
• You will each have a punch card and for each month that you attend we will punch it. At the end of the year, anyone who has not missed one time will receive a bonus prize.
• We strongly encourage you to make something with the free prizes that you receive and show that at the show and tell as well.

You all do such a good job on your pages and it is a joy to be your teacher!
